Notre Dame Football: Irish likely will face Georgia in prime time
By Ben Belden
When Notre Dame football travels to Athens to play the Georgia Bulldogs, it is likely to be a prime time night game, according to the SEC and CBS.
The last time Notre Dame football met Georgia on the field, the excitement for the game was palpable, but no one really knew the implications the game would have on the College Football Playoff.
At the time, both programs were back on the upswing after disappointing stretches in previous seasons. The game had intrigue, but at the time, it was probably underappreciated for the impact it would have on college football that year.
In short, that game between Notre Dame and Georgia flew under the radar of importance until it was learned just how talented both teams were later in the season.
That, however, will not be the case this year. Notre Dame at Georgia has all the fanfare that it possibly could deserve. Many have called it the most interested non-conference game of the season.
Based on a release yesterday, it seems that both the SEC and CBS seem to agree that Notre Dame and Georgia is can’t-miss television.
This is an explanation of what games will air on CBS on which dates. Notre Dame plays at Georgia on September 21st, which CBS has labeled as a date for an “SEC Doubleheader,” which will take place in the time slots of 3:30 and 8:00 PM.
The long and short of it is this: Notre Dame and Georgia are going to play in one of those time slots and if you were to take the time to look at what other SEC games are being played that day, none moves the needle the way that two storied programs battling between the hedges does.
While it hasn’t been officially announced that this game will for sure be the night game, it is reasonable to conclude that will, indeed, be the case. The Irish and Bulldogs could be set up for another primetime thriller.
