College Fantasy Football: How Do Notre Dame Football Players Stack Up?
By J.P. Scott
College Fantasy Football is a thing. Here’s where one site is ranking Notre Dame football players heading into the 2019 season.
If you’re like us here at Slap the Sign, you were all-aboard the College Fantasy Football train last season. If you’re like me, you wanted some Notre Dame players on your team — both to help win and to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
Heading into 2019, Fantrax.com has players ranked by position according to how well they are projected to perform from a fantasy standpoint. Here’s where they had Notre Dame’s key players slotted.
Ian Book
Book is currently ranked 33rd among all quarterbacks. He’s a steal at that position, especially given his underrated ability to scramble in the red zone.
Jafar Armstrong
Fantrax has Armstrong slotted as the No. 26 running back available. His pass-catching ability factors into that respectable ranking.
Chase Claypool
Claypool is ranked No. 37 among all wide receivers. That seems like a decent spot, considering he’s never been a true No. 1 target. He offers tremendous upside in the red zone and via deep balls.
Cole Kmet
Kmet is at No. 18 among all tight ends. That tells you just how much people are the country are expecting out of him in the starting role for the Irish.
Notre Dame Defense/Special Teams
The Irish defense and special teams come in at No. 17 among all units nationally. Fantasy or not, having a projected top 20 defense/special teams combo should give Irish fans a warm-fuzzy.
Also of interest, the Central Florida quarterback combination of Darriel Mack Jr. and former Notre Dame starter Brandon Wimbush came in at No. 20. It’ll be hard for most Notre Dame fans to ignore what Wimbush is doing in Orlando this season.
We’ll have weekly in-season college fantasy football updates throughout the 2019 college football season here at Slap The Sign.
