No. 4: 2017 vs. Navy (Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, IN)

This wasn’t technically a Shamrock Series game, but it was a special alternate uniform that was worn in a season without a Shamrock Series game. So I think it qualifies.

With these unique uniforms, the Irish paid homage to legendary coach Knute Rockne and the days of old.

Each jersey had the name “Rockne” on the back.  The name was stitched just below three gold stars, which symbolized the three national championships the team won while Knute Rockne was the head coach.

Additionally, a quote from one of Rockne’s famous speeches is printed on each sleeve. It wasn’t legible from far away (i.e. the stands), but it was a nice detail they added.

The helmets were a slightly darker shade of gold. They had darker lines painted on them to make them resemble the old leather helmets football players used to wear.

They emphasized that detail/theme by pairing the helmets with brown Under Armour cleats.
