The recruiting momentum continues for the Notre Dame football program.

Athlete Landen Bartleson has committed to Notre Dame football after his official visit this past weekend. I say athlete because he’s been recruited by many programs at different positions, from running back to cornerback and safety.

The Irish staff want him at cornerback and obviously Bartleson is completely on board with that position after making it official with his commitment this weekend.

He was offered back in November of 2018 and has been to campus multiple times since and has enjoyed everything about what South Bend has to offer.

At the moment Bartleson holds 10 offers, including those from the likes of Kentucky, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

What will Bartleson bring to South Bend?

The 6’1″, 190-pound “athlete” will be set to join the cornerback group when he gets to campus, and that’s where I like him most. He has very quick feet and fluid hips that can really separate you from others at the corner position, along with length that’s ideal. His change of direction will be huge when he’s on the defensive side of the ball and it will absolutely help him thrive once he gets cornerback nailed down. He’s played both side of the ball, so he’s a competitor with a great football IQ and he isn’t afraid to go and make a play.

Bartleson will need time to completely focus on one position and continue working on learning the cornerback position. I hope going into his senior season and camps that he puts all his focus on defensive technique and just continues taking quality reps at corner. He’s always been a very smooth running back and I definitely think that will help him translate over to defense better.

In the end, you can’t teach size and athleticism, and because of that, the staff believes he has an extremely high ceiling for them on defense. They believe that’s where he will excel the most while in blue and gold.

With Bartleson committing to the Irish, there are now 14 commits in the class — eight on offense and six defense. He will be joining defensive back commit Clarence Lewis as the second cornerback in the class for the time being.

It’s starting to look like the staff wants around five commits on the back end of the defense at cornerback and safety, so I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon when it comes to adding and evaluating talent to the defensive back group.

As for Bartleson, he seems like a great fit for Notre Dame, and his athleticism should really excite Irish fans. He has versatility to play multiple positions on defense, which is never a bad thing.
