Notre Dame Football: Irish record vs. every Big Ten team

Here’s how Notre Dame football has fared over the years against every team currently in the Big Ten Conference.

The Big Ten is the nation’s oldest Division I conference, and for a long time, many thought it would be the best fit for Notre Dame football — should the Irish ever decide to join a conference. Some still feel that way, and Notre Dame does play hockey in the Big Ten.

As far as football, the Irish have played at least two games against every team in the Big Ten over the years. Here’s how it’s gone.

Purdue

Notre Dame has played the Boilermakers a total of 83 times. The Irish lead the series 56-25-2.

Michigan State

The Irish have faced the Spartans 65 times. Notre Dame leads the series 36-28-1.

Northwestern

Notre Dame and Northwestern have met 47 times, with Notre Dame leading the series 37-9-1.

Michigan

Notre Dame and Michigan have hooked up 37 times and will do so again in 2019. Michigan leads the series 19-17-1.

Indiana

The Irish and Hoosiers have squared off 25 times with Notre Dame leading the series 22-3.

Iowa

The two I-80 schools separated by the state of Illinois have met 24 times. Notre Dame leads the series 13-8-3.

Penn State

These two legendary programs have met 19 times and it’s dead even at 9-9-1.

Wisconsin

The Badgers and Irish have played 16 times. They’ll add two more games to that list when they meet at Lambeau and Soldier Field in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Notre Dame leads the series 8-6-2.

Nebraska

Notre Dame has faced the Huskers 16 times. Nebraska has the advantage in the series, 8-7-1.

Illinois

Shockingly, these two teams have only played 11 times. Illinois has never come away victorious, as the Irish lead the series 10-0-1.

Ohio State

Another surprise — these two have only met six times. Ohio State leads the series 4-2.

Rutgers

The Irish and Scarlet Knights have faced each other just five times. Notre won all five games.

Minnesota

Notre Dame has taken on the Gophers five times and leads the series 4-0-1.
