Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Not done just yet
When it comes to Notre Dame football recruiting, the 2020 cycle has to be just about over — right? Wrong.
While the Notre Dame football has landed many top commits — good for the No.5 spot in the 2020 class rankings according to 247sports.com — Brian Kelly and Co. are still hungry for more.
Just in the past few weeks, the Irish have landed big-time commitments from top-of-the-list recruits such as wide receivers Jay Brunelle and Xavier Watts, as well as cornerbacks Landen Bartleson and Caleb Offord.
Realistically, with 17 guys already, Notre Dame could call it quits on the 2020 recruiting trail. Yes, it would be a smaller class, but the Irish have filled most of their holes with solid talent. There are plenty of players Irish fans should be very excited about, such as the 5-star wide receiver Jordan Johnson and 4-star Chris Tyree — who many argue is a 5-star talent.
Notre Dame football has also hit the recruiting trail in a big way in the 2021 class.
So, who are last few players Notre Dame is targeting on the recruiting trail? Do the Irish have a solid chance of landing them?
Let’s find out bout about three players — all safeties — that Notre Dame football would love to land.
Lathan Ransom
One of the best athletes in the 2020 class, safety Lathan Ransom has been recruited with extreme persistence from the Notre Dame staff. Ransom is one of the most athletic and gifted defensive backs Notre Dame has seen in a while, and it seems they’re doing everything in their power to land him.
Ransom has the physical tools to do it all at an elite football university such as Notre Dame. The Tucson, Arizona product has narrowed his list down to Ohio State, Texas and Notre Dame. Suffice to say, that’s some tough competition for the Irish to beat out.
Ransom has announced he will go public with his decision on July 16 at 11:00 AM EST. Notre Dame has a chance in this one, but with how well Texas and OSU recruit DBs, its tough to see ND as a real favorite.
Jerrin Thompson
After ‘whiffing’ on some of its top targets, Notre Dame has focused its eyes onto Texas safety Jerrin Thompson. Ranked as the No.14 safety in the 2020 class, he would be a huge pull for the Irish.
Thompson has not yet set a timetable for his commitment, but has hinted recently about an official visit to Notre Dame — possibly for a home game in September. It appears as if the Irish will wait on Ransom’s commitment in the chance that they land him before turning up the heat on Thompson.
Both Thompson and Ransom would add stellar pieces to the solid safety corps that already exists.
Malcolm Greene
A guy that has not been talked about a ton, but who could end up with the Irish is Virginia product Malcolm Greene.
Greene has been somewhat quiet about where he wants to play his college ball, but there is no doubt that Notre Dame is interested in his talents. One thing that is known is that Greene, along with Thompson, is expected to take an official visit this Fall. Things could definitely heat up from there.
