The Top 5 Notre Dame Basketball Coaches of All-Time
2. Mike Brey (2000 – Pres)
Overall Record: 417-221
Win Percentage: .654
Conference Titles: 1
All-Americans: 4
NCAA Tournament Appearances: 12
Regular Season Titles: 1
Being the current head coach, Mike Brey still has the opportunity to take over the number one spot. Although he and the number one ranked coach have the same composite score, I decided to give the other coach the edge due to his higher win percentage and more NCAA tournament appearances.
Don’t get me wrong, as I am a big Brey fan and have grown up watching him, but I didn’t want bias to get into the way. With all that aside, Brey has been a great coach at Notre Dame. He has lead the Irish to a regular season title during his first season when they were a part of the Big East. He also lead them to a ACC title during the 2014-2015 season. In that same season, along with the following season, Brey lead the Irish to back-to-back Elite Eight appearances.
Mike Brey also is currently tied for first place for most All-Americans at four. The All-Americans to play under Brey include Jerian Grant, Ben Hansbrough, Luke Harangody (who was named an All-American in 2008, 2009, and 2010), and Troy Murphy. Brey is the only coach on this list and in Notre Dame Men’s Basketball history to reach the milestone and very impressive accomplishment of 400 wins.
Look for Brey to turn things around these next few seasons, after struggling the past couple due of years due to devastating injuries.
