Defensive Tackle Health

Jonathan Bonner and Jerry Tillery are now in the NFL, leaving some pretty big holes in the defensive tackle rotation.

On a quick side note, the defensive end position very well could be the deepest it has ever been at Notre Dame when it comes to talent, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see three pass rushers in at the same time — with the trio of Julian Okwara, Khalid Kareem, and Daelin Hayes.

With Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa (MTA) and Kurt Hinish being the guys everyone expects to be starting coming week one, there aren’t a whole lot of options behind those two. Backing up MTA is sophomore Jason Ademilola — who could be a starter as well — and freshmen Jacob Lacey behind Kurt Hinish. Sophomore Jamion Franklin and freshmen Hunter Spears are both recovering from serious leg injuries and are hoping to be ready for the start of the season.

Other than that, the only other guy who could see the field is freshmen Howard Cross. While he is thought highly of by the staff, he is just a freshmen. The good news is that Jamion Franklin has been cleared to play, which Brian Kelly also stated in his press conference yesterday.
