My Favorite Notre Dame football player ever: Will Fuller
Will Fuller was a key part of the offense for Notre Dame football from 2013-15, and put up record-setting numbers while being absolutely electric week-in and week-out.
When it came to choosing who my favorite Notre Dame football player of all-time was, there was never any doubt. He may not be everyone’s first choice, but Will Fuller has been and (probably) always will be my favorite Notre Dame football player ever.
The speed that Fuller brought to the Notre Dame offense in the three years he was at ND was simply something fans had never seen before. Lightning quick, great hands — and you can’t forget the dreadlocks.
Will Fuller is simply an iconic Notre Dame player.
When Notre Dame fans look back at Will Fuller’s career, everyone seems to recall his big-play ability first, and for good reason.
The first play that comes to mind is this one — let me set the scene:
Week 2, 2015.
No. 4 Notre Dame is seconds away from being upset by unranked Virginia after starting QB Malik Zaire broke his ankle early on in the game.
20 seconds left in the game, ND is down 27-26, one timeout, 2nd and 9.
Flustered new starting QB DeShone Kizer drops back and time is slowly slipping away from the Irish.
Kizer escapes the rush and heaves one deep for star wideout Will Fuller.
Fuller turns on the jets, makes the play and scores the touchdown to give the Irish the win with just 12 seconds on the clock.
Legendary.
The only thing better than the play itself was the meme of the Virginia kid hanging over the railing in disbelief. Fuller’s header on Twitter still is actually a drawing of him and the Virginia kid which is absolutely awesome. Talk about Notre Dame through-and-through.
In that 2015 season, Will Fuller went on to put up 1258 yards on 62 catches and 14 TDs. He averaged over 20 yards per catch that season and went on to become a 1st round draft pick to the Houston Texans where — when healthy — he has lit it up.
