Former Notre Dame star Michael Floyd helped his own cause on Thursday with a solid preseason performance.

Michael Floyd has had a rollercoaster of an NFL career since leaving Notre Dame. The guy has all the talent in the world, but the former 5-star college recruit has suffered a number of career setbacks recently — both on and off the field.

As a result, his NFL future is in serious jeopardy.

Floyd is currently on the Ravens depth chart. Truth be told, if you are a wide receiver looking to make an NFL roster right now, Baltimore is not a bad place to be. They have plenty of questions at the position and not a whole lot of answers.

Floyd could be an answer.

He is a savvy veteran who has been around the block. In the locker room, he could offer some mentorship to younger players in terms of what not to do off the field. On the field, he still has enough polish in his game to give a team value and show the younger guys how to play the position at the NFL level.

That was on display Thursday night.

The 29-year old Irish alum was targeted four times, hauling in three balls for 54 yards and a touchdown — and he looked good doing it.

The Ravens would love for this to be the Michael Floyd they have moving forward — even if only for the season. They have two extremely talented rookie wideouts in Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Notre Dame alum Miles Boykin.

The receiver position, however, is not usually kind to rookies in the NFL.

Having a dependable veteran on the field would be huge for second-year quarterback Lamar Jackson. John Harbaugh knows that, and performances like the one Floyd put up last night go a long way in terms of leaving a warm, fuzzy in the bellies of a coaching staff.

This is the fifth different NFL uniform Michael Floyd has worn in his professional career. If he doesn’t make the Baltimore roster this season, it will likely be his last.
