Notre Dame football weather report: Louisville
By J.P. Scott
A little light rain shouldn’t really impact the Notre Dame football game against Louisville on Monday night, but humidity could be an issue.
When it comes to weather impacting sports, there are a wide range of outcomes based on the specific conditions. Snow fall, wet grass, wind — even heat — all can play a role in how things shake out in any given sporting event, including Notre Dame football games.
Generally in the sport of football, bad weather favors the underdog. Precipitation tends to be the great equalizer.
Unfortunately for the Louisville Cardinals, the weather outlook for the season opener between the Cardinals and the Fighting Irish on Monday night appears to be nearly ideal.
There might be a rain cloud or two earlier in the day, but those clouds and anything they drop out of the sky should be clear by kickoff. The temperature during the game should be in the mid-to-low 80s throughout the contest.
With no sign of heavy rainfall, Notre Dame’s entire playbook will be on the table. Ideally for Louisville, they would want some rain to slow down the Irish passing game and render Notre Dame somewhat one-dimensional on offense.
That said, humidity could still play a role.
As of right now, the humidity could be around 70 percent when the game gets going. Things are going to get slippery in terms of ball security and it is something to keep an eye on.
Currently, the official weather report for Louisville, Kentucky on Monday is as follows:
Party cloudy, high of 89, low of 68. There is a 20 percent chance of precipitation with winds out of the northwest at 6 mph. It’ll be an average of 64 percent humidity throughout the day.
Keep an eye on the weather as Sunday approaches, as it can change in an instant and have a serious impact on Notre Dame’s approach.
