Conclusions

The Irish Pass The Eye Test Of What An Elite College Football Team Should Look Like.

Notre Dame dominated all three phases of the game, leading to complete domination in the 66-14 win. This is what elite teams do, they dismantle lesser competition, rest their starters and get valuable playing experience to their depth players.

The Irish looked like they were on a different level than New Mexico from the opening kickoff. Unlike last season, where they seemed to play to their level of competition, letting teams like Ball State and Vanderbilt hang around much longer than teams of their talent should have, this year’s team has thoroughly dominated teams that they should dominate.

In doing so, some of the less experienced players on the team have seemed to have gelled into their roles. This Notre Dame team is much deeper than teams in the past, which should aid them as they play other elite teams this season.

Notre Dame Seems Ready For Georgia.

Minus some minor tweaks, the Irish seem to be clicking at all levels and seem ready for a week three showdown in Athens against the No. 3 ranked Georgia Bulldogs. This will likely be the most difficult game of the season for the Irish, but they have to feel confident in their play coming into this primetime matchup.

Notre Dame will likely get stud tight end Cole Kmet back and potentially wide receiver Michael Young for their matchup against the Dawgs. While these top receiving options have been absent with collarbone injuries, Notre Dame has been able to get additional players crucial playing time, which should help them against Georgia and down the stretch.

dark. Next. The play that changed everything vs. New Mexico

Due to having commanding leads against their competition, the Irish have been able to get various depth pieces valuable playing time, something which will aid them in the future. Last year, especially in the Clemson game, it became very evident how little depth the Irish had at critical positions. This team is much different, it has very talented, albeit young, players across the board, so if they can get them experience, it helps safeguard against injury and allows the Irish to keep starters fresh as the game wears on.
