Here’s an in-depth look at how Notre Dame and Georgia compare position by position.

The game between No. 3 Georgia and No. 7 Notre Dame is being billed as this season’s matchup with the most playoff implications. It features two elite programs that are bursting with NFL talent.

Let’s break down both teams, position by position, while determining who has the advantage.

Quarterback

Georgia Bulldogs-Jake Fromm 6’2″, 200 pound, junior, 4 star recruit out of Warner Robins, GA.

42 for 56 on pass attempts, 601 yards, five touchdowns through three games in 2019.

Notre Dame Irish-Ian Book 6’1″, 200 pound, senior, 3 star recruit out of Oak Ridge, CA

29 for 47 on pass attempts, 553 yards passing, six passing touchdowns, 23 rushes for 127 yards and two rushing touchdowns in two games in 2019.

Advantage-Georgia

Jake Fromm and Ian Book are both in the upper echelon among college football quarterbacks. Fromm showed the moxie needed to beat out two highly touted five star recruits in Jacob Eason (now the starting quarterback at Washington) and Justin Fields (now the starting quarterback at Ohio State), both NFL talents in their own right.

Fromm led the Bulldogs to a thrilling win against Notre Dame two years ago, as a freshman. Both Fromm and Book were named to the preseason watchlist for the Davey O’Brien Award, given to the most outstanding quarterback in college football, as well as to the Walter Camp preseason watchlist, awarded to the college football player of the year. Both of these are highly prestigious awards in the college football community and serve as indicators to the level of quarterbacks on both teams.

In addition to appearing on the watchlist for those two awards, Fromm was also named to the watchlist for the Maxwell Award, given to the best all around player in college football. Given his pedigree, the fact that Jake Fromm is a consensus top three quarterback in all of college football this year and the fact that most analysts believe that he will go in the top ten in the 2020 NFL draft, I have to give the Bulldogs the edge at quarterback.
