Notre Dame Football: Top Storylines vs Virginia
Time to Bounce Back
The best thing about football is they let you play again regardless of what happened the week before. Although a close loss last weekend, it was still a loss — something many of these players haven’t experienced in the regular season since November 25, 2017 vs. Stanford.
There are two ways this team can handle a loss like that. They can either bounce back like they did after their losses to Clemson in 2015 and Georgia in 2017, where they went on to win their next six and seven games — or they can respond like they did after the FSU loss of 2014, losing four of their last five games.
The program is on a different level than it was in 2014, and the talent of this year’s roster along with the veteran players makes it hard to believe a close, early season loss will derail this year’s team, but words and thoughts aren’t actions. Book, Gilman, Kareem, Okwara, Claypool — the leaders of this team have to step up make it happen.
Great teams are able to bounce back from tough losses, and the elite teams use those losses as a catalyst to grow and become better. Of the 20 teams that have made the CFP, 14 did not have an undefeated record.
As mature and talented as this team is, I expect to see a more energized, dedicated, and motivated Irish squad that will look to prove a point the rest of the season.
There’s no time to dwell on a close loss to a great team in Georgia, especially when almost the entire season still lies ahead.
Get up, get ready, and bounce back.
