7 receptions for 70 receiving yards and zero receiving touchdowns.
Notre Dame Irish-Michael Young: 5’10”, 190 pound, junior, 3 star recruit out of St. Rose, LA.
Has not played this year due to a broken collarbone.
Advantage-Notre Dame
While Joe Reed is a legitimate receiving threat for Virginia, the overall receiving corps led by Chase Claypool is more talented than the Cavalier receivers. Look for Ian Book to target Claypool early and often as a big bodied threat. In addition, the return of Young allows Finke to transition back to his natural slot position and gives the Irish offense another solid receiving option in the passing game.
Tight End
Virginia Cavaliers-Tanner Cowley: 6’4″, 240 pound, senior, 3 star recruit out of Manasquan, NJ
7 receptions for 76 receiving yards and zero receiving touchdowns.
Notre Dame Irish-Cole Kmet: 6’5″, 230 pound, junior, 4 star recruit out of Arlington Heights, IL
9 receptions for 108 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
Advantage-Notre Dame
Cole Kmet returned last week against the Georgia Bulldogs, after missing the first two games and part of preseason with a broken collarbone. Kmet made his presence felt immediately, pacing the all Irish players in targets and passing yards. Based on his big performance last week against a daunting Georgia defense that ranks 11th in the nation total defense, it appears that Kmet is going to be a force for the remainder of the season and will be Ian Book’s go-to target.
