Advantage-Notre Dame
While the Irish defensive line has not piled up the sacks like many experts believed they would, Notre Dame features two defensive ends who both appeared on the preseason watch lists for the Bednarick Award, for the defensive player of the year, the Bronco Nagurski Award, for the most outstanding defensive player in college football and in the first round of many analyst’s 2020 NFL mock drafts. Facing a Virginia offensive line that has given up seven sacks against lesser opponents this year, presents the Irish pass rushers with an opportunity to get their first sacks of the season. Getting pressure against the Cavalier passing game, will give the playmaking Irish secondary an opportunity for turnovers. It is crucial that the Irish have an elite pass rush against Virginia this weekend.
