Notre Dame Football: Major commitment for the 2021 recruiting class
By Carlee North
Notre Dame landed a big time recruit on Saturday.
Notre Dame started off rivalry weekend strong with a commitment from elite 2021 wide receiver Deion Colzie from Athens, Georgia. In fact, Colzie was in the recruiting section when Notre Dame visited Georgia a few weeks back as a Bulldog recruit. It was the last game he attended before making his way to South Bend for his official visit this weekend — ultimately shutting down his recruiting process.
This is an absolute huge pull from the home state team and all the credit has to go to the coaching staff for making Colzie a huge priority for the 2021 class. At the end of the day though, Colzie really coveted the Notre Dame offer, and it was going to be difficult regardless to say no to the Irish.
At the moment, Colzie hold 10 offers, including those from Florida, Alabama, and Georgia.
What will Colzie bring to South Bend?
The 6’4″, 190 pound wide receiver has it all. He has size, speed, physicality — you name it. He ran a 4.56 at camp, he’s bigger than virtually everyone in the secondary at all times, and he isn’t afraid to put his head down and make some blocks as a receiver.
He has long arms that work to his advantage in both the run and passing game. Don’t forget his ability to separate off the line of scrimmage against man coverage, which is really polished for a junior receiver.
The biggest thing about his game that I see is his deep ball ability. He has really long strides and once he gets going it’s almost impossible to stop him. He tracks the ball really well in the air and I love the way he goes up and snags it.
When you put it all together, he’s absolutely a top 100 talent in the country and will continue to show that throughout his high school career — along with a ton of camps — where he has already opened some eyes with his performances. At The Opening Regional in Tennessee, he was named “Alpha Dog” for his performance. He’s a physical freak and is going to be a huge player for the Irish when he gets campus.
Notre Dame now has six commits in the 2021 recruiting class, with 5 being on offense and one on defense. The class is only getting started and it’s already top 3 nationally with elite targets that still remain extremely high on Notre Dame.
