Notre Dame landed an elite athlete over the weekend.

Notre Dame gets another victory after beating Southern Cal Saturday night, landing its second commitment over the weekend, this time with 2021 wide receiver Lorenzo Styles Jr committing on Sunday.

Styles is an Ohio State legacy and a ton of people pegged him to be a Buckeye. At the end of the day, Styles’ heart was always with Notre Dame and he was just waiting to make it official. It seemed like he wanted to be Irish since he was offered and nothing was going to change that.

The perfect time for that was this weekend when he was in town for his visit with his family. The connection with the coaching staff and the current commits was just icing on the cake for the explosive two-way player. Notre Dame was always the place for him.

Styles holds 19 offers, including those from the likes of Auburn, Ohio State, and Florida.

What will Styles bring to South Bend?

The 6’1″, 175 pound athlete is a standout player on both sides of the ball. The Irish are recruiting him at wide receiver, but he’s also an outstanding prospect at the cornerback position and could eventually help on that side of the ball for the Irish.

His speed, toughness and feel for the game is what separates him as a wide receiver. He could become a great player for the Irish in slot with his ability to create after the catch and his ball skills. There’s no drop-off when he gets downfield, where he’s also a big time playmaker and aggressive going up to make plays. He makes really good downfield adjustments when the ball is in the air.

A lot of schools have recruited Styles as a defensive back, where he’s absolutely an elite prospect. His change of direction, fluidity, and instincts are some of the best in the country and I could easily see Styles making his way to the secondary once he gets to campus.

As of now though, the staff wants to see him at wide receiver, which is perfectly fine. He’s just that talented and a high 4-star prospect either way.

With Styles making it official on Sunday, that’s the second commitment over the weekend at wide receiver in the 2021 class.

The relationship Styles has with Notre Dame quarterback commit Tyler Buchner is one that really helped make this an even easier decision for Styles.

I still expect the Irish to add more receivers to the 2021 class, and I expect them to be just as talented as the two newest commits.

dark. Next. Kareem was Defensive Player of the Game vs. USC

It’s quite a class being built so far for Notre Dame and the staff. More to come!
