Notre Dame vs. Virginia Tech stats and facts
By J.P. Scott
Notre Dame and Virginia Tech have only met twice. Here are some numbers to know for both programs.
On Saturday, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech will meet for just the third time in college football history. The two teams met for the first time in 2016 and again last season. Both matchups have been while Brian Kelly was leading the Irish and Justin Fuente was at the helm of the Hokie program.
Surprisingly, Frank Beamer coached at Virginia Tech for a total of 28 years and never once met up with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish — regular season or bowl game. That’s really too bad, as it would have been fun to see the College Football Hall of Famer go toe-to-toe with Lou Holtz once or twice.
In terms of home atmospheres, there is a lot to be proud of with both programs. Notre Dame Stadium is one of the cathedrals of college football — a bucket list historically for many football fans. Lane Stadium in Blacksburg is growing a reputation as a must-see venue on game day as well. The Hokies entrance to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” is unmatched in terms of intensity in college football. That alone is an honor and a tribute to the passionate Virginia Tech Hokies fan base.
