Notre Dame: Kyle Hamilton was Defensive Player of Game vs. Va Tech
While it was against an “easier” opponent Notre Dame’s defense looked improved against Virginia Tech. While it was a challenge to find anyone who stood out last week, this week there were a few.
Honorable Mentions
Khalid Kareem
At some points of the season, Kareem has joined his fellow defensive end and captain Julian Okwara with underwhelming play. However, that can’t be said for his play against Virginia Tech. Kareem was in the backfield quite often and in return picked up a sack. To go along with his sack, Kareem also tallied four tackles. For a full breakdown of Kareem’s stats, click here.
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
A fumble recovery that could have been taken all the way had he not missed on his first attempt to pick it up highlighted “Wu’s” day. While his stat sheet was not as impressive as other games, Owusu-Koramoah has continued to have a strong physical presence — by this I mean that when he gets a hit, it is usually one of those where you feel bad for the guy getting hit. Owusu-Koramoah ended the game with a total of three tackles and a fumble recovery. For a full breakdown of Owusu-Koramoah’s stats, click here.
Asmar Bilal
The veteran linebacker had himself another impressive game. While he doesn’t make plays that make him stand out as often as some, he has been a big player for the Irish defense this year. Many — including myself — had doubts about his ability to play prior to the beginning of the season, but he has continued to play well and prove people wrong. Bilal finished the game with seven total tackles and an assisted tackle for loss. For a full breakdown of Bilal’s stats, click here.
Defensive Player of the Game
Kyle Hamilton
The stud freshman continues to play well, despite Coach Kelly mentioning that he had hit that mid-season wall that most freshman get. Hamilton recorded his third interception of the season on Saturday against Virginia Tech, this one to seal the deal in the Irish’s gritty win. One other small note was that Hamilton did almost get ejected for “targeting”, but the call was reversed and rightfully so. Kyle Hamilton finished the game with a total of four tackles and an interception. For a full breakdown of Hamilton’s stats, click here.
