Alohi Gilman racks up 10+ tackles

If there is a game for Gilman to show out in, it’s this one. The former Navy standout is now an Irish star. With injuries racking up, the importance of his impact is rising.

Gilman is currently third on the team for total tackles this season with 52 and is only four behind the leader, Asmar Bilal.

But he been relatively quiet this season. The safety has had eight or more tackles in only three games in 2019. While his numbers haven’t been extremely overwhelming in every game, his consistency is there. Game after game, he has found a way to make an impact.

Last season, Gilman’s performance versus his former team set the pace for a strong finish to the season. He came away with seven tackles against the Midshipman, with six of them being solo — a number he topped only one other time last season.

That game was a strong performance that led the way to him acquiring double-digit tackles in four of the last three games of the season, including 18 total tackles versus Clemson.

Gilman’s ability to read Malcolm Perry will be a huge factor in how this game pans out. While his former teammate didn’t carry much weight in 2016, the season they played together, Gilman may at least know a few of his mannerisms.

He has at least been on the opposite sideline for this matchup once before and was a big reason why Perry was held to 151 total yards — a mark that would likely be considered a win if it were to happen again.
