In a game that was supposed to be a very low scoring game, Chase Claypool came up big for Notre Dame with a career day.

Before this game kicked off, if I told you Notre Dame scored four touchdowns in the entirety of the game, you would probably be ecstatic. Games against Navy are traditionally low scoring and a pain to watch, but Chase Claypool had maybe his best ever day in a Notre Dame uniform on Saturday.

Halfway through the third quarter at Notre Dame Stadium, Claypool had already tallied 117 yards on seven receptions and FOUR touchdowns.

In my Gameday Primer article that I write in the week leading up to each and every Notre Dame football game, I highlighted how Claypool could and should take advantage of his massive size advantage against the smaller Navy secondary. It looks like he took my advice.

The line coming into the game was -7, and many people had Navy covering or even winning against the Irish. But Notre Dame jumped out to a 21-0 lead right away, with each of the first three TDs going to Claypool.

The game most definitely boosted Chase Claypool’s stock as an NFL draft pick. The senior has shone on special teams for Notre Dame for years, likely putting him on a roster, but his play this season and especially on Saturday most definitely caught the eyes of some NFL teams.

Claypool’s ability to go up and get it — as well as muscle off would be tacklers — combined with his breakaway speed make him an ideal NFL wide receiver and a real steal for whoever decides to snatch him up next Spring. Also, definitely expect his stock to rise dramatically, much like Miles Boykin’s did after the NFL Combine. Claypool is a freak athlete and will have a great chance to showcase it there.

Next. Claypool was offensive player of the game vs. Navy. dark

Notre Dame fans, you will be seeing plenty of Chase Claypool on Sundays for years to come.
