Boston College held to under 200 rushing yards

Boston College’s offense is fueled off of how well they can run the ball. If they’re, stumped they fall apart. In some sense, they are much like Notre Dame’s last opponent, Navy. They might not be running the triple option, but how well they run the ball directly correlates to their success.

Only twice this season has Boston College been held to under 200 yards on the ground. This illustrates how tall of a task it would be for Notre Dame to achieve. Yet, the Irish are possibly in the best position that they could be to make this happen.

As mentioned earlier, BC and Navy have offenses that rely on the same success. Notre Dame is coming off of one of their most dominant wins of the season and possibly looking the most dangerous they have in 2019.

The triple-option is incredibly difficult to not only read but also to stop. The Irish were successful at both. The Midshipmen were able to rack up 281 yards on the ground last weekend, thanks to the lackluster effort that comes with garbage time.

That was the second-lowest rushing yard total Navy has been held to up to this point in the season. This is extremely impressive, considering Navy averages more than 446 yards per game on the ground.

Notre Dame did it by controlling the line. The defensive line elevated their level of physicality and it showed.

Compared to what they had to deal with last week, BC’s running game should seem like a cakewalk to defend, as long as the Irish have physically recovered by kick-off.

The Eagles AJ Dillon is an impressive player who headlines the running game, but his ability to get past a tough Notre Dame defense will be tested this week.
