A Win in Palo Alto

A win over Stanford has been elusive enough over the last decade, with Notre Dame pulling out just three wins in the last ten meetings. But a win in Palo Alto, California has proved to be seemingly impossible.

I’ve never been a fan of the Irish traveling out west for games, as they always seem to struggle. The last time a Notre Dame football team traveled to Stanford and left with a win was in 2007. Since then, the Irish have lost five straight when making the trip to the Bay Area.

Brian Kelly has done an impressive job consistently nailing the marquee rivalry victories every Notre Dame coach needs. Beating USC, Stanford, Michigan, Navy, Boston College, Michigan State, etc. are all basic requirements to base performance on when it comes to football in South Bend.

The next step is to start picking up these wins on the road. He has multiple wins in the Coliseum, defeated Michigan State in East Lansing in 2017, and has a couple victories over Boston College in Chestnut Hill.

He failed to cross off a win in The Big House this year, but this week provides a shot at redemption in doing something only a handful of Irish coaches have done in the past.

Taking care of business in Palo Alto this Saturday would be a great momentum shift for this team and Brian Kelly moving forward.
