Key Offensive Player for Stanford: Davis Mills, QB

With stud QB KJ Costello ruled out by head coach David Shaw for today’s game, Mills will make his sixth start of the season for Stanford against ND.

Last week against Cal, Mills went 26-of-35 passes for 283 yards and a touchdown. On the season, Mills is 130-of-195 for 1,677 yards and nine touchdowns.

He is a solid QB for Stanford, but he is no where near as good as Costello. His play will, however, be very key to how Stanford fares against the Irish today.

Key Offensive Player for Notre Dame: Jafar Armstrong, RB

A guy that many expected to be a breakout player for Notre Dame, has been anything but. Plagued with injury all season long, junior RB Jafar Armstrong has struggled to stay healthy and it has greatly impacted a season in which he was expected to be the RB1 for the explosive Notre Dame offense.

Armstrong suffered an abdominal tear in Notre Dame’s first game against Louisville and hasn’t looked the same since. It seems as if Armstrong still may not be 100 percent due to his usage — or lack thereof.

Today’s game against Stanford should be on that Notre Dame controls on both lines of scrimmage and it would be great to see No. 8 get back to doing what he does best. Armstrong has been outplayed by Tony Jones Jr. and Jahmir Smith this season and you could even make a case that C’Bo Flemister has as well.

Stanford should be a great time for the ND staff to see what is has in Armstrong post-injury. He will be a key to the ND offense.
