Notre Dame safety Alohi Gilman would fit perfectly with “The Patriot Way.”

It appears Notre Dame safety Alohi Gilman will be headed to the NFL in 2020. If he’s gotta go, it would be nice to see him end up in a place that would get the most out of his strengths.

That place could very well be New England.

Let’s start with personality. Gilman got into the Naval Academy. That tells you he’s smart, disciplined and goal oriented. He’s the kind of guy who will show up, take orders and execute. He’s coachable, drama-free, and he would have no issue buying in to New England’s “Do Your Job” philosophy.

Additionally, Bill Belichick has a history with Navy and a great respect for his program, as his father was a scout at Navy for years.

On the field, Gilman would fill the all important role of enforcer on the New England defense.

The best Patriot teams over the last two decades have had smart, physical guys playing safety. Players like Lawyor Milloy, Rodney Harrison and Patrick Chung have roamed the secondary, making big hits, picking off passes and causing fumbles.

Gilman seems to have a knack for making big plays when they’re needed most.

Patriots safeties are also asked to move up and fill roles against the rush frequently. Gilman is built like a linebacker, and would have no issue whatsoever doing that.

You won’t see New England spend an early round pick on him, but don’t be shocked when you hear Gilman’s name called as the newest Patriot draft pick in April. Everything about Alohi Gilman as a player and person is the embodiment of “The Patriot Way.”

Next. Claypool would fit with Bills. dark

Sure, we’d love to see all of our favorite Notre Dame players end up with good teams, but Gilman in New England just seems like the perfect fit.
