Notre Dame: Khalid Kareem was Defensive Player of the Game vs. Stanford
The Notre Dame defense closed out the season a positive note.
Despite starting off the game very sluggish — allowing 17 points in the first half — Clark Lea made the necessary adjustments at halftime for the Notre Dame defense to come out and look very dominant in the second half.
Here were the top defensive performers from Saturday’s win over Stanford.
Honorable Mentions
Jalen Elliot
Although the Senior safety might not have any huge plays, he was very consistent throughout the day, making the plays he needed to. While this was Elliot’s last regular season game in an Irish uniform, he made sure he gave it his all. Jalen finished the day with a total of three tackles. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
“Wu” was all over the place on Saturday, making his presence known and then some. He had a couple of his signature big hits as well. At the end of the game on Saturday “Wu” had a total of nine tackles and a pass defended. For full breakdown of Owusu-Koramoah’s stats, click here.
Ade Ogundeji
Ade played a huge role in Notre Dame’s defensive game plan against the Cardinal. Normally a defensive end — due to Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa being injured in the previous game — moved to the inside and still played extremely well. Ade had a strip in the end-zone that lead to Khalid Kareem’s fumble recovery and touchdown. Keep an eye on this guy come next season, he is going to be a monster.
Defensive Player of the Game
Khalid Kareem
Khalid Kareem went out with a bang, playing extremely dominant in his last regular season game in an Irish uniform. Khalid is definitely going to be missed next season, but he has plenty of talented options to replace his spot. The senior captain had a total of five tackles, a fumble recovery, and a touchdown against the Cardinal. Irish fans will definitely be watching this guy play on Sundays for many years to come.
