Notre Dame Football All-Decade Team: Athlete
Amir Carlisle (2013-2015)
Carlisle transferred to Notre Dame from USC and played 3 seasons in South Bend. While he was originally a top 100 wide receiver recruit coming out of the California high school ranks, his first few years in college were primarily as a running back. In his first year at Notre Dame, he started four games and carried the ball 47 times for 204 yards. The next two years, he switched back to original position of WR — primarily in the slot — and caught a total of 54 balls for 660 yards and 4 touchdowns. Carlisle also returned 46 kicks during his time at Notre Dame and averaged over 21 yards a return, and while he never ran one back, he did recover a blocked punt for a score against his former USC squad in 2015.
I happened to be at what was likely the best game Carlisle had in an Irish uniform in 2014 at Arizona State, when he nearly totaled 200 all purpose yards — 92 of those yards coming through the air along with a receiving touchdown right in front of my seat. Carlisle went undrafted in 2016, but was picked up by the Arizona Cardinals — ultimately never making the roster.
