Notre Dame Women’s Basketball: Irish will face Guelph in an exhibition matchup
The Guelph Gryphons will visit the Notre Dame women’s basketball team this Saturday in an exhibition matchup.
The Irish have dropped five of their last six games and are currently on a three game losing streak. Despite this being an exhibition matchup, Notre Dame has a chance to regain confidence and come out with a much needed win.
Notre Dame’s offense generates 67.5 points per game, while the defense holds opponents to 69.2 points per game. Both of these statistics rank outside of the top 50 in women’s college basketball, and it is a glaring issue with this team. However, facing Guelph this weekend gives the Irish a chance to raise their confidence along with addressing issues that this team is currently facing.
The Irish’s season has been disappointing as far as winning goes; However, there are bright spots to this team that point at a bright future. Freshman Sam Brunelle has been terrific and is coming off a 31 point game against DePaul. Brunelle has scored 174 points this season, which ranks 5th amongst freshman and 71st in the nation.
Despite Notre Dame being much more talented than Guelph, the Gryphons have players that can impact this game. Ivana Vujadinovic, Burke Bechard, and Skyla Minaker are all key players to the Gryphons. Bechard averages 13.6 PPG, Vujadinovic averages 11.5 PPG and Minaker averages 9.5 PPG. Each player has the ability to generate points on the offensive end; However, there is a huge talent gap between both teams, and Notre Dame will most likely dominate for most, if not all the game.
