Katlyn Gilbert and Notre Dame stormed past Guelph in an exhibition Christmas matchup.

Notre Dame cruised passed Guelph in what was their last game before having six days off.

In what was a close game in the first quarter and mostly the second, with 5 minutes remaining in the 1st half, the Irish went on a 20-4 run to end the half which started a trend for the rest of the game and the score going into half was 48-32.

The Gryphons simply couldn’t keep up with the Irish offense. Notre Dame outscored Guelph by 16 in the 2nd half.  Notre Dame was victorious with a final score of 92-61.

Katlyn Gilbert wasn’t the only one that had a large contribution in today’s win over Guelph. Destinee Walker and Anaya Peoples were huge contributors, both scoring over 20 points.

Destinee Walker contributed for 22 points, shot 7-11 from the field, 3-5 from behind the arc, came down with 2 rebounds and dished out 6 assists.

Anaya Peoples contributed for 21 points, shooting 10-14 from the field. Anaya also came down with 9 boards and dished out 2 assists.

The Gryphons struggled offensively and their highest scorer on the team was Skyla Minaker. Skyla Minaker contributed for only 11 points, 1 assist, and 3 rebounds.

Guelph did not have an answer for Notre Dame’s offense and it is noticeable on the stat sheet. Collectively as a team, the Irish shot 52.8 percent from the field. Not only did the Irish shoot more effectively than Guelph, but they also attempted 12 more shots than Guelph.

The turnover margin was 30-10 in favor of the Irish. Turning the ball over 20 more times than your opponent is never a key to success, and it shows on the scoreboard for Guelph.

The Irish dominated in every statistical category except rebounding. Guelph out-rebounded Notre Dame 43-33. The Gryphons out-rebounded the Irish on the offensive glass 13-8. Should the Irish be worried about their rebounding? Or is it just because they already had such a big lead they weren’t throwing it all on the line?

A dominant victory was much needed for Notre Dame as they have struggled in their last few games. Despite Guelph being a very weak opponent, it is an important moral victory and confidence booster heading into their next game.
