Notre Dame vs. Iowa State Camping World Bowl Score Predictions
By J.P. Scott
Here is how some of our writers see the Camping World Bowl game between Notre Dame and Iowa State shaking out this afternoon.
It’s Notre Dame game day — BOWL GAME EDITION!. Here’s how our writers see the game against Iowa State going.

It’s understandable that lot of Irish fans are disappointed with the Camping World Bowl slot after finishing 10-2, but Iowa State is a good team and will be a test for Notre Dame. Defense will have its hands full with the Iowa state pass attack but the Irish should be able to hold them down once they get settled in, which is what I expect from this Clark Lea defense.
For the offense, I had my concerns once Chip Long got fired that they would be “off” coming into the game, but from everything I’ve seen and read, it looks like the offense is ready to roll with Tommy Rees leading the way. I would expect them to all play their hearts out for their coach. Irish pull away late and finish the season 11-2, beating Iowa State 37-24.

I certainly wasn’t expecting the Camping World Bowl at the beginning of the season, but here we are. Notre Dame should win comfortably vs. a 7-5 Iowa State squad, but bowl games are weird and unpredictable, and almost a month off for both teams could lead to slow starts, which greatly benefits the Cyclones. If the Irish can ride the hot hand of Ian Book and keep their offense rolling like they have the last 4 games, it’s going to be hard for Iowa State to keep up. I expect this to be the final chapter of Book’s ND career, and he, along with the rest of the team, ride off into the humid Florida sunset with their 11th win of the season. Notre Dame takes care of business 45-21.

31-17 Irish!

From a talent stand point, Notre Dame should win by a couple scores, but you could say that about a lot of teams Iowa State has beaten or nearly beat. The Cyclones will be plenty motivated and Notre Dame’s offense is without a coordinator. Still, I think talent wins out in the end. Notre Dame 24, Iowa State 21.

You see this storyline in bowl games every year: one team is super excited to be there and the other team is apathetic. After a 10-2 season, the Irish undoubtedly felt like they deserved a better bowl bid. That coupled with some reports of lethargic and sloppy practices this week has the Notre Dame fan base oozing anxiety. I’m in that same boat. I think the Irish will be trailing Iowa State heading into the fourth quarter. However, I think this team is too good to lose this game. Ian Book will have some late-game heroics again and give Notre Dame their eleventh win of the season. Notre Dame 30, Iowa State 27.
Mason Plummer
Notre Dame comes out flat and Iowa State will lead the game going into halftime, but a strong second half performance and a few forced turnovers give the Irish the win in Orlando. Cole Kmet will lead the offense, and expect Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah to have a big game defensively. ND finishes 11-2 on the season with momentum heading into 2020. 27-20, Notre Dame.
Matt Clark
In the first half, Notre Dame and Iowa State trade blows on offense with big plays on both sides. At halftime it’s 21-21. The third quarter is more of the same, a fast paced shootout that has Notre Dame up 31-27 at the end of the third. By the fourth quarter, a more athletic Irish defense wears Iowa State down and manages a takeaway that takes the life out of the Cyclones. Notre Dame finishes off Iowa State late and wins 45-34.

I think ND starts out hot after all the talk that they might not be ready. Fast starts is something that haunted them this year, but with the new collaborative effort involved now that Long is gone, I think the players and staff want to prove a point. Iowa State will keep it close and maybe even uncomfortably close at times, but NDs talent wins out in the second half and pulls away. Notre Dame 33, Iowa State 21.
Sonny Martinez
There’s been a lot of talk about the quality of the bowl and Notre Dame’s focus for this game. All this is doing is making Notre Dame more focused, which is bad news for Iowa State. This isn’t going to be an easy game, as Iowa State is much better than their 7 wins may show. I think we see a lot of offense in this game and it’ll be close for most of it. Ian Book is the difference and he and Chase Claypool connect for at least two touchdowns. Don’t be surprised to see a Notre Dame pick six at some point also. 41-33 Irish.

Iowa State Super Bowl is the Iowa game and they nearly won it. They hung with Oklahoma and Baylor — two teams that don’t really thrive on the defensive side of the ball. An accurate snapshot of this Iowa State team in terms of how they match up with Notre Dame is the Kansas State game. The Wildcats and Irish are similar schematically, but Notre Dame is much more talented. As a result, I expect a sound win for the Irish, who lead this one wire-to-wire. Notre Dame 38, Iowa State 20.
