Key Defensive Player for Notre Dame: Kyle Hamilton, S

When facing a team that likes to throw the ball as much as Iowa State does, your safeties and secondary immediately become very important. And who is better at safety right now in the country than Kyle Hamilton? Not many.

Watching Hamilton get extended playing time in this game will be a glimpse toward the future, especially if Notre Dame gets the game under control and can experiment with what could be the safety combo of 2020 in Houston Griffith and Kyle Hamilton.

Hamilton has been an impact player all year long on the Irish defense and today will be no different. With this being his first bowl game, expect some big plays from the freshmen.

Key Defensive Player for Iowa State: Greg Eisworth, S

A member of the All-Big 12 team, safety Greg Eisworth is the heart and soul of the Cyclones defense. A transfer from Ole Miss, Eisworth is a team captain and a true leader on the team.

The 6’0″, 205 pound safety had 60 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 10 passes defended. Eisworth is a ball-hawking safety who will put his body on the line and could potentially cause trouble for Ian Book and Co. offensively.

It seems likely that Eisworth will be matched up doubling or spying Claypool or Kmet in passing situations, and if he is able to mitigate either of those two, there could be problems.
