Initially offered a scholarship by Notre Dame in 2015 as a high school sophomore, Jurkovec was a highly recruited quarterback. With numerous scholarships to the best programs in college football, Jurkovec had the distinct option of selecting from almost any blue-chip program that he wanted. However, as a lifelong Notre Dame fan, the choice was an easy one for Jurkovec, opting to commit to the school he had grown up cheering for.

Jurkovec was a highly rated unanimous 4-star prospect coming out of Pine-Richland, with Rivals ranking him as the number five dual-threat quarterback and 87th overall recruit in his class. Meanwhile, 247 had him listed as the fourth-best dual-threat quarterback and 115th overall prospect.

The hype surrounding Jurkovec would continue to grow during his senior year of high school. In his final season at Pine-Richland, Jurkovec would pass for 3,969 yards and 39 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,211 yards and 24 touchdowns.

If his statistics were not enough to make Irish fans salivate over the prospects of their new quarterback recruit, Jurkovec would lead his team to a state championship, giving credence to his leadership abilities and further driving home why Notre Dame thought so highly of him.
