Notre Dame Football: Five things to know regarding Jurkovec transfer
By Matt Clark
With all of the aforementioned factors being considered, Jurkovec determined that his best course of action would be to transfer from Notre Dame to a program where he had a clearer path to playing time. As a result, he would settle on Boston College as his new school of choice.
Boston College’s new coach Jeff Hafley was in search of a new quarterback for the Eagles following 2019 starting quarterback Anthony Brown entering the transfer portal after he suffered a season-ending knee injury midseason.
Many believed that Jurkovec would decide to go to Pittsburgh or Penn State, given their proximity to his hometown of Gibsonia, PA. However, he would decide to transfer to Boston College because of the more defined path to playing time and the fact that his girlfriend is enrolled at near-by Boston University.
Jurkovec has applied for a waiver from the NCAA to allow him to play immediately for Boston College. If granted, he will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Eagles. If the NCAA denies his request to play next season at Boston College, he will have to sit out until 2021 and will only have two years of eligibility remaining.
Hafley and the Eagles hope that they landed a gem in the 6’5″ and 225-pound Jurkovec. Boston College is banking on the idea that they are receiving the quarterback that was once held in the same regard as phenom quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. If Jurkovec can fulfill the promise that he had when the Irish recruited him, it could prove to be a transformative move for the football program at Boston College.
Irish fans who have trepidation over the notion that Jurkovec could lead the Eagles to a vendetta inspired victory over the Irish in the next Holy War matchup between the two teams can take solitude that the earliest that this could occur would be a regular-season matchup in 2022, which would be Jurkovec’s final year of eligibility with the Eagles.
Until that potential matchup, Notre Dame football fans will undoubtedly be paying close attention to what Jurkovec does at Boston College while wondering what could have been for the former top-recruit and the Irish.
