Notre Dame football will face tough home challenges from teams from three Power 5 conferences next season.

The 2020 Notre Dame football season will be here before you know it. Looking at the upcoming schedule, it looks like business as usual. There are a couple of heavy hitters, a couple of gimmes, and a handful of games that could get uncomfortable.

Here are the five toughest home games on the 2020 Notre Dame football schedule.

5. Arkansas

Forget the Razorbacks being the doormat of the SEC. Those days are likely behind the program for a little while. Georgia offensive line coach Sam Pittman is now in charge of the program, and he’ll instill the same physical play and mentality into the Arkansas program immediately. The Irish will be the better team and should get the win, but the Razorbacks won’t go down without a fight.

4. Duke

Program continuity is a huge key to success in college football, and the Blue Devils have that in head coach David Cutcliffe, heading into his 13th year at the helm of the Duke football program. His team fears no one, and they’ll be motivated to pull off the upset next fall.

3. Stanford

Most years, this game would be No. 1 or No. 2 on a list like this. After Stanford’s 2019 season, however, it is clear that David Shaw is in a bit of a rebuilding phase. As always, the Cardinal will be physical and well-coached, and it will require a top-notch effort for the Irish to log a win.

2. Louisville

Notre Dame caught a scare from the upstart Cardinals in 2019. Moving forward under Scott Satterfield, Louisville is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Irish fans should be happy that this home-home series happened during Satterfield’s first two seasons.

1. Clemson

No brainer. They’ve been to three of the last four College Football Playoff National Championship games. They are arguably the gold standard in the sport, and will have the presumed No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft under center. These are the games we love seeing the Irish play in.
