Alohi Gilman (2017-2019)

Played two seasons, starting all 26 games he was eligible for in an Irish uniform after transferring from Navy following the 2016 season. Gilman was ruled ineligible after the transfer for the 2017 season and thus had to sit out. During his two years patrolling the back-end for Notre Dame, Gilman accumulated over 160 tackles, 6 of those for loss, had one sack, 4 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions and 7 pass breakups.

He did all this while also being named a caption for the 2019 season. Much like Drue Tranquill, Gilman had a competitiveness and leadership about him that truly set him apart — essentially making up for any physical limitations he may have. These are also the kind of traits NFL teams covet, which will likely ensure he is drafted in April. Even though Alohi held one more year of college eligibility, it was pretty common knowledge he wouldn’t be returning to South Bend for his 5th year. As a former Navy player, he was required to sit out his freshman season, therefore — his 5th year would be a 6th year from an age standpoint.
