Notre Dame Women’s Basketball hosted the Pittsburgh Panthers today. The Irish trailed by three after the first quarter, but took the lead early in the second and did not look back as they cruised to a 74-52 victory.

We have entered the final stretch of what has been a rough regular season for the Notre Dame women’s basketball team.

Sunday’s game featured two teams in the basement of the ACC standings. Pittsburgh entered the game in sole possession of last place with only one conference win, and Notre Dame entered the game tied for the third-worst record in the ACC.

These two teams met not too long ago when the Irish played the Panthers in Pittsburgh back on January 2nd. Notre Dame won that game by a final score of 60-52.

The Irish were victorious again this weekend as they rolled to a 74-52 victory. Notre Dame trailed at the end of the first quarter, but they reclaimed the lead early in the second quarter and did not look back.

Graduate transfer Destinee Walker was on fire this afternoon. She finished the game with 24 points while shooting 73 percent from the field. No, that was not a typo.

Walker would have likely scored more in this game had she not gotten herself into foul trouble in the first half.

Late in the game, the Irish slammed the door shut on the defensive end of the court. Notre Dame held Pittsburgh scoreless for nine straight minutes in this game. The Panthers were scoreless for the majority of the fourth quarter and only managed to score four total points in that quarter.

That, my friends, is some freakin’ defense.

The Irish are now 10-14 with six games remaining on their regular season schedule (all against ACC opponents). They have a decent chance to break .500 and climb into the top half of the conference standings before the start of the ACC Tournament.

dark. Next. 9 Irish players invited to NFL Combine

Next on the schedule for Notre Dame is a road trip to Chestnut Hill where they will face Boston College this Thursday at 7:00 pm ET. The Eagles beat the Irish in South Bend last month, so Muffet McGraw and her team will be looking for a little bit of payback.
