Notre Dame MBB: Irish win in clutch fashion against Boston College

After dominating Miami in their last game, the Notre Dame men’s basketball team took the game to the wire against Boston College winning with 0.1 seconds.

The past two games have been two polar opposite performances by the Notre Dame men’s basketball team, ending with the same result, a win for the Irish. In the game against Miami, the Irish jumped out to a commanding lead and dominated throughout, eventually defeating the Hurricanes 87-71.

Last night against Boston College, Notre Dame engaged in a back-and-forth performance for the duration of the game with the Eagles. In the end, TJ Gibbs would tip the ball in with 0.1 seconds remaining in the game to secure the win for Notre Dame.

John Mooney led the way for the Irish, scoring 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the game. Meanwhile, sophomore guard, Prentiss Hubb chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and four assists for Notre Dame.

Junior forward Nate Laszewski came off the bench to score 10 points and grab five rebounds for the Irish. TJ Gibbs scored nine points in the game, but no basket was bigger than the one that secured the win at the buzzer for Notre Dame.

Steffon Mitchell, Jay Heath, and Derryck Thornton tied for the lead in scoring for Boston College, as they all registered 12 points in the game against the Irish. Freshman guard Julian Rishwain came off the bench to score nine points for the Eagles.

With the win, the Irish improved to 18-10 on the season. The Notre Dame men’s basketball team looks to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive as they return to action this Saturday when they go on the road to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

After that, the Irish conclude their regular season schedule with two home games against 6th ranked Florida State on March 4th and against Virginia Tech on March 7th. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Irish begin ACC Conference tournament play on March 10th in Greensboro, North Carolina.
