Notre Dame football fans may want to slap some money down next time they’re at the sports book.

The 2020 Notre Dame football season is still months away, but that doesn’t stop the wise guys in Las Vegas from setting odds on the upcoming college football campaign.

Over at The Action Network, the futures odds look pretty good in terms of Notre Dame’s chances to win the whole thing this coming season. At the time of publication, The Action Network has Notre Dame football at +2642, meaning a $100 bet would win you $2642 if the Irish were to win it all.

Some of you perpetually skeptical Irish fans may scoff at that number, but those are actually the 8th best odds in the nation. The only teams Vegas thinks have a better shot to win it all than the Irish are Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida and Oklahoma.

The good news for the Irish is that they’ll control their own destiny as much as anyone in 2020. Notre Dame should be favored in every game except the one they play against Clemson, and that’s in South Bend — giving the Irish a puncher’s chance. Even if they lose to Clemson, as long as it’s not a blowout, Notre Dame football will stay in the College Football Playoff conversation.

The teams ahead of them odds-wise come from four of the Power 5 conferences. Both Alabama and LSU can’t win the SEC West. Same goes for the SEC East when talking about Florida and Georgia. At least two of those four teams will end up on the outside looking in. If Notre Dame finishes with only a loss to Clemson, I like their chances of cracking the all important Top 4 and punching a ticket to the College Football Playoff.

Like every year in the College Football Playoff era, the Irish need to win out or only suffer a single loss if they want to stay in the playoff conversation.
