Notre Dame men’s lacrosse: #10 Irish lose to #16 Denver 14-11

The 10th ranked Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team lost 14-11 in a home matchup with 16th ranked Denver, causing the Irish to have a two-game losing streak.

The tenth-ranked Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team dropped its second consecutive game this season, losing to 16th ranked University of Denver by a score of 14-11 on Saturday. The loss comes on the heels of a 14-9 defeat to 7th ranked Maryland a week prior.

Midfielder Wheaton Jackoboice led all Irish scorers by netting four goals in the contest, giving him six goals on the season for Notre Dame. Senior attacker Brian Willetts added two goals and an assist for the Irish, as did senior midfielder Bryan Costabile who now has eight goals on the season.

Junior middie Morrison Mirer would score twice, while attacker Griffin Westlin would dish out three assists for Notre Dame, giving him seven on the season. Freshman attacker Pat Kavanagh would score his ninth goal of the year and midfielder Quinn McCahon would add an assist in the game.

Freshman goalie Liam Entenmann had a bit of a rough go of it in the game, taking the loss while allowing 12 goals and making only seven saves in the contest before being lifted in favor of junior goaltender Matt Schmidt. Schmidt would close out the game in goal for Notre Dame making one save and allowing two goals to the Pioneers.

Denver would be led by attacker Ethan Walker who would net four goals and add two assists. Pioneers midfielder Jack Hannah would score twice and assist on another two goals, while fellow midfielders Ted Sullivan and Sam Dwinnell would each add two goals.

Denver goaltender Jack Thompson would record the win for the Pioneers, making 12 saves on the afternoon while allowing 11 goals against. The win was his second of the season, bringing his record to 2-1.

Following the loss, Notre Dame would see their ranking drop from 10th to 13th. The Irish were ranked 5th in the nation just two weeks ago. Notre Dame, who is now ranked 2-2 on the season, travels to play 19th ranked Ohio State on Tuesday, March 10th. The Buckeyes are currently 4-2 on the season.
