Notre Dame football: Realistic 2021 dream class – Offense
Tyler Buchner – Helix (La Mesa, California) – Commit
This was the top prospect on Notre Dame’s board regardless of position, and the staff was able to land him. Buchner holds offers Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, USC on top of his Notre Dame pledge, and is a borderline 5-star recruit after a stellar junior season that saw him break records in the state of California and high school football in general.
He recently transferred to Helix High School – a significant bump in competition and the same school that produced Reggie Bush and Alex Smith for reference. If he can repeat or come close to his junior numbers during his senior season, we won’t just be looking at a five-star athlete, but possibly the number one player in the 2021 class.
If for whatever reason Buchner and Notre Dame football split ways, and I don’t see that happening, Michigan commit J.J. McCarthy probably would have been the coaching staff’s next offer. While he is committed to the Wolverines and Notre Dame would be late to the party, there are many that feel Notre Dame is his dream school. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to this though.
