Notre Dame football: The best schedule never played
Game 9: At Boise State
Alright, a little more bias here. How awesome would it be to see Notre Dame playing on the blue turf? Boise State was UCF before UCF even thought about winning 10 games. In fact, since joining FBS in 1996, the Broncos have TWO losing seasons. In comparison, Boise State has 17 ten-win seasons in that same time. By this point in the season, it’s November and hopefully, there’s some snow flying. It would make for a great spectacle and likely a great game.
Game 10: Mississippi State:
This game is worth playing just for some Notre Dame specific sound bites from Mike Leach. Leach runs the aforementioned air raid offense possibly better than anyone and now has a new recruiting ground to tap into. It would be better for this game to take place in 2023 or 2024 once Leach has the ability to install his own recruits into the system, but the game would be entertaining nonetheless.
Game 11: AT Oklahoma State
The final road game of the season, Oklahoma State has been one of the best teams in the Big 12 since Mike Gundy’s “I’m a man, I’m 40” rant. Oklahoma State has a winning season every year since 2005 and even finished third in the country in 2011. Stillwater is always a tough place to play and this would have nail-biting potential.
Game 12: Florida:
Notre Dame and Florida have met once and never on either school’s campus. The 1992 Sugar Bowl was a 39-28 Irish victory. Since then, Florida has been the better program. The Gators have more 10 win seasons (15-8,) three National Championships and a Heisman winner. This would be a huge way to close out the season and be a true test of how Notre Dame has really progressed throughout the season.
