Notre Dame football: Realistic dream class-Defense
Gabriel Rubio – Lutheran of St. Charles County (Saint Peters, Missouri) – Commit
Rubio was an early top target of the staff and someone that jumped at the chance to play at Notre Dame. Much like Blake Fisher on the offense, Rubio was a perfect fit for the Irish on and off the field and it didn’t take much persuading to secure his pledge once an offer was handed out.
Some will argue that the staff should take a second defensive tackle here, but with the depth chart the way it is, plenty of interior defensive lineman have several years of eligibility left and there is no need to create a logjam if the Irish can avoid it. Plus, as mentioned in the defensive end write up, it is possible the staff takes an edge player with interior flexibility.
If Notre Dame were to pursue a second defensive tackle, look no further than to George Rooks out of familiar St. Peter’s Prep in New Jersey. Rooks was an early offer for the staff, but once Rubio jumped on board, they seemingly stopped recruiting most other defensive tackles and have only extended five offers in total. It is safe to say that from a realistic dream class standpoint, the staff hit big with Rubio and anyone else would simply be gravy.
