Pete

Pete was a friend of Rudy’s from childhood on. They played high school football together, and would later work together at the steel mill. He was always at Rudy’ side, supporting him every step of the way. He even stood up for Rudy against Frank Ruettiger, when Frank was giving Rudy grief for his child-like obsession with all things Notre Dame football. One such interaction led to a bar fight early in the film.

It was also Pete who gifted Rudy the infamous jacket Sean Astin wears throughout the movie.

Pete’s constant support of Rudy’s dream, combined with his tragic, untimely death, were would would eventually drive Rudy to leave everything he had known in Joliet behind — including his fiance — and take the leap toward the University of Notre Dame.

Without Pete, we likely don’t have a story to begin with. We could all use a friend like Pete.
