Notre Dame football has developed consistency in its program, but is looking to take the next step. Here’s why it could happen in 2020.

Clearly, not everyone is a believer in Notre Dame football in terms of the expectations for the 2020 season. In truth, having skepticism about the Irish is fair.

Refusing to join a conference (and rightfully so), the Irish have boasted that it competes only for national championships. Unfortunately for the Irish, in the biggest moments of the past few seasons, Notre Dame has fallen short.

But overall, it certainly has been a good run for the Irish.

Over the course of the last three seasons, Notre Dame has amassed a 33-6 record. In short, the Irish have taken care of business against the teams it should beat, but has stumbled on the biggest stage. The Irish haven’t lost at home in the past two seasons, but still hasn’t figured out how to get the monkey of its back when it comes to primetime games on the road.

It’s the age-old criticism of Notre Dame.

Notre Dame will look to buck that trend in 2020 and it will have every opportunity to do just that. With a talented roster and a talented coaching staff, the Irish look to get over the hump.

Despite the Irish having a few question marks, there is ample opportunity to fill holes. Through development and depth, the Irish have more plug-and-play players than it has in previous years.
