Brock Wright – Tight End – Senior

Coming out of high school, Brock Wright was ranked ahead of fellow classmate and Tight End Cole Kmet. According to the 247Sports Composite, he ranked as the 2nd best Tight End and 71st prospect nationally. However, when both players stepped on campus, Kmet immediately outpaced Wright as the best all around Tight End on the team.

During his time at Notre Dame, Wright played mainly as a blocker and rarely a receiver. In 2018, he caught only 2 passes for 12 yards and a single touchdown. In 2019, he did not improve greatly. Wright snagged 2 balls for 45 yards.

These statistics do not add up to player who gets drafted. However, Wright will receive several chances to become the alpha Tight End in 2020. He will need to compete with Junior Tight End Tommy Tremble for targets. Tremble caught 16 passes for 183 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2019.

Can Wright leap Tremble and hold off challenges from Junior George Takacs and five-star Freshman Michael Meyer? Based on past experience, it is unlikely that Wright can make any headway.

A new coach, John McNulty, might make all the difference in Wright’s career. It was no secret that Wright did not mesh with former Offensive Coordinator and Tight Ends coach Chip Long. Perhaps, with a new voice, the Senior Tight End from Cypress, Texas can fulfill his potential that many recruiting experts saw. Regardless, Wright is fighting to find his way into the later rounds.

What can Wright do to improve: Wright simply needs to prove that he is a passing catching threat. If Wright can have a Ben Koyack-like emergence during his Senior year, he probably can go from undrafted free agent to the late rounds.

Projection: Undrafted Free Agent

High-Low Range: 7th Round to UFA
