Notre Dame Football: Five venues the Irish need to play in
By Andrew Hall
The two-billion dollar Allegiant Stadium will open this fall with UNLV and Raiders football games.
One of the newest and most luxurious stadiums in the United States is Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Allegiant Stadium is the new home of the Las Vegas Raiders – the transient NFL franchise who will play its inaugural season in the fall. The stadium was supposed to host the 2020 NFL Draft but was forced to cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, Allegiant Stadium will host the Las Vegas Bowl and the Pac12 Championship.
The shiny new venue is the ultimate juxtaposition to Notre Dame football – the richest college football tradition against the backdrop of the newest most modern stadium.
The Fighting Irish have played in some of the most state-of-the-art football stadiums in the world. In 2013, Notre Dame battled Arizona State at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. In 2014, the Irish played against Syracuse in the new Metlife Stadium. This fall, Brian Kelly will take his team south for a clash with Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Two games in the near future fits perfectly with a Shamrock Series game at Allegiant Stadium. In 2022, the Irish play California and UNLV. These games are currently slated as Irish home games. Either team would work well for a neutral site contest.
A Shamrock Series contest in Las Vegas definitely appeals to tourist and gamblers. However, the city’s rowdy reputation may draw some ire from the traditionally conservative Notre Dame administration.
Notre Dame and Las Vegas would make for one epic weekend.
