Notre Dame Football: Five venues the Irish need to play in
By Andrew Hall
SoFi Stadium, the new home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, construction costs dwarf the new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The estimated total for the new entertainment complex is $4.963 billion.
Opening in 2020, SoFi Stadium would be another tremendous NFL Stadium for the Irish. The world’s first indoor-outdoor stadium promises to reinvent the fan experience. With its west coast location, the Pac-12 seems like a logical choice for opponent. Many fans believe USC represents the perfect match up. However, would USC agree to give up a “home game” at the Coliseum? Notre Dame certainly would not forgo home field advantage against the Trojans. So, what other Pac-12 team makes the most sense?
UCLA and Notre Dame are two traditional schools that have battled in the past. Notre Dame also plays Arizona State and Washington about twice a decade. However, none of these teams really moves the needle in terms of excitement.
Oregon makes the needle spike. The Irish and Ducks only met once in 1976 when Dan Devine’s team shutout the quack-attack, 41-0. But, Oregon is a much different program now – frequently in the conversation for the College Football Playoff. The matchup would be a perfect one-off for both schools and SoFi Stadium is the ideal venue.
