Notre Dame football is off to a good start in the 2022 recruiting class, landing talented offensive lineman Joey Tanona.

Notre Dame football has landed its first 2022 commitment from Indiana offensive lineman Joey Tanona. He was offered by the staff back in May and right away had the Irish among the top of his offer list. He was able to get a visit in to campus prior to everything getting shut down, so that was really big for him and definitely for Notre Dame.

The success and history of the offensive line though is obviously a major reason he decided to pull the trigger this early in favor of the good guys. I’m sure his relationship with offensive line coach Jeff Quinn played a huge part as well in making his decision public. And then obviously education too is the cherry on top for this talented lineman. It just all came together for him and his family and South Bend was just something he didn’t want to say no to in the end.

At the moment, Tanona has 14 offers from Ohio State, Iowa, LSU and many other major programs.

What will Tanona bring to South Bend?

It’s early, but the 6’5″ 280-pound offensive lineman is a pretty athletic big guy up front. He will definitely add some weight to his frame but he has really good feet and is solid on the move in run blocking. I’d love for him to be a sure fire tackle but really you just don’t know how he’ll truly develop throughout the next couple years. With that being said, his frame and smarts is what’s going to make him be a really solid college football player. It will definitely be intriguing to follow his development to get a much better idea of where he will end up along the line for years to come.

Notre Dame is officially off and running with the 2022 class at a position that is exactly where they are most comfortable, with the first commit being an offensive lineman. Offensive line coach Jeff Quinn is starting early on the trail and he has his eye on plenty of really highly touted prospects in this class that could pair great with Joey Tanona, who also have high interested in Notre Dame. Love the start here for the class. Here we go, 2022!
