24. Jonathan Doerer (Kicker)

Best Ranking: 18

Worst Ranking: 25

Jonathan Doerer was a three-star prospect out of Charlotte, North Carolina. He was a late addition to Notre Dame’s 2017 recruiting class – committing just days before National Signing Day in February.

Doerer was originally committed to play football for Maryland, but after taking an official visit to Notre Dame, he was swayed to commit to the Irish.

After taking a redshirt his freshman season, he made his first contributions to the team in 2018. Special Teams coordinator Brian Polian asked Doerer to handle the kickoff duties for the team in order to preserve the leg of starting placekicker Justin Yoon.

Entering the spring prior to the 2019 season, Doerer was presumed to be the starting placekicker. However, he did not have the best offseason. It reached the point where some writers and fans believed that walk-on kicker Harrison Leonard could win the starting job.

Doerer was able to successfully retain the starting job and he went on to exceed all expectations in 2019. He finished the year having made 17 of his 20 field goal attempts, which included two made field goals of 50 yards or more.

It is safe to say that expectations are much higher for Doerer in 2020. The senior was named to the preseason watch list for the Lou Groza award and is primed to have another great season.
